This Workshop is about making a traditional ballet bodice with boning. It’s also a fashionable piece often called a Corset.
You need to have basic sewing skills and know how to use a regular machine and at least tried to use a serger. You will learn how to trace a pattern, lay out and cut our your bodice from the lining and fashion fabric. Then flatline your pieces and assemble your bodice. Create boning channels and insert boning. And then finish off top edges with piping and do hook and bars on the back of the bodice. And finally add shoulder eleastics. We will be using a McCalls pattern that I have adapted over the years and use with great success for Ballet Wichita. Oh, and I believe I saw that a lot of Fashion Runway shows this past season were showing a lot of Corsets, that is basically what this is, a Corset. So, maybe you want to make it for yourself. I can help you adjust the pattern to fit you like a glove.
For the adventurous, I can show you how to make your own bias tape strips and make your own piping. Otherwise purchased piping is fine.
I will be running this class on multiple Thursday evenings. You should probably plan on 8-12 hours to finish this project. You should probably plan on a minimum of 2 sessions with me, but that will depend upon your individual sewing skills. If you need additional studio time to finish, I will work with you to schedule more time at the Studio.
If your Studio wants to do a session just for your Studio, well, let’s talk and see if we can get a Workshop scheduled for your Studio.
Cost will be $50.00. View the Supply List here.
