Heidi-Erin Alford Skursky

Mrs. Heidi-Erin Alford Skursky began her training at the age of three in Dayton, Ohio at Pontecorvo Ballet Studios under the direction of Barbara Pontecorvo. When she turned ten, she began dancing with the pre-professional company Gem City Ballet where she trained with many well renowned teachers and choreographers. Since the age of ten, Mrs. Skursky has participated in summer dance programs around America, but two of her favorites were Chicago Ballet and Alvin Aliey School of the Arts. At the beginning of 2009, Mrs. Skursky graduated from Friends University in Wichita, Kansas with highest honors, gaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Ballet and Drama. Upon graduating, she began dancing with Ballet San Antonio as a Trainee; she gradually became a Company Member or Corps de Ballet under the guidance of Mayra Worthen and Gabriel Zertuche. She enjoyed dancing in classical ballets and new works. In 2012, she began dancing for the Corpus Christi Ballet under Cristina Stirling Munro and Mrs Alexandra Trevino. As a Principal Soloist she has performed many exciting roles in classical ballets as well as new works. A few of her favorite roles were: The Sugar Plum Fairy in the Nutcracker, The Scarecrow in the Wizard of Oz, Black Swan in Swan Lake and many more. She was also encouraged to choreograph and had the honor to present her work at Regional Dance America.

Mrs Skursky met her husband in 2015 and began a new journey dancing and teaching in Pensacola, Florida for part of the 2016 season. Soon after they moved to Jacksonville, Florida where she danced, choreographed and taught. In 2018 she joined The Florida Ballet where she not only danced for three seasons but also taught. She is always looking to continue her education to be the best teacher and dancer, in 2020 she took American Ballet Theatre’s National Teacher Training! Heidi-Erin Alford Skursky is an ABT® Certified Teacher, who has successfully completed the ABT® Teacher Training Intensive in Pre-Primary through Level 3 of the ABT® National Training Curriculum.

Mrs. Skursky is not only a professional ballet dancer, but is also a certified personal trainer and has helped develop Athletic Training for Dancers with NOVA based in Florida. She has seen a great need for wellness and proper care of mind, body, and soul in such a competitive industry. Her passion for wellness and athletic training came as a result of her own physical and health struggles. She became well versed in cross-training, sports nutrition, and healthy living and has used her experience to help many students achieve their personal goals. She is constantly pursuing more knowledge to not only improve herself as a dancer but to also help guide her students in the classroom.

Once in Jacksonville, Florida she staged her first major classical works “Waltz of the Flowers” in the Nutcracker. She has also had the opportunity to create many new works including “A Time for Swing”. Mrs. Skursky is hoping to continue creating ballets in the future.

This 2024 season is Mrs Skursky’s first with Ballet Wichita. She is so excited to be back and bring all the knowledge she has gained to the community.
