Since 1974, Ballet Wichita has performed for 12,000 people each year through three entertaining productions, including the treasured holiday ballet, “The Nutcracker.” Under the direction of the current artistic director, Jill Landrith, the company has advanced its reputation and tradition of creating and presenting exceptional dance productions. Ballet Wichita also performs “The Nutcracker” in cities across the state, including recent sold out performances in Junction City and McPherson.
Through the company’s innovative and growing educational arts outreach programs, each year Ballet Wichita buses nearly 6,000 elementary-age students to its annual matinee performances of “The Nutcracker” (often a first-time exposure to both dance and live theatre for students). Ballet Wichita’s educational and outreach programs have received acknowledgment and support from both the Kansas Health Foundation and The National Endowment for the Arts.
Ballet Wichita is committed to providing exceptional opportunities in dance, including the chance to observe and learn from professional guest artists in residencies and master classes. Students attending our workshops and dancing in our productions represent nearly all the studios and numerous universities and colleges from across South Central Kansas; we are grateful for the enduring relationship we have with the talented teachers and schools in our community.
