Position Title: Company Director
Reports To: Executive Director
Location: Wichita, Kansas (in-person)
FLSA Status: Part-Time (.75 FTE)
Salary Range: Competitive salary based on experience

Position Overview

The Company Director serves as a key artistic and operational leader of Ballet Wichita, collaborating with the Executive Director, Artistic Producing Director, and Academy Director to ensure the successful planning and execution of all company activities. This role supports the organization’s mission through artistic programming, performance logistics, company management, and strategic partnerships. The Company Director upholds Ballet Wichita’s values of excellence and innovation in every aspect of their work.

Core Responsibilities

1. Artistic Planning and Production Management 

In collaboration with the Producing Artistic Director and Executive Director:

  • Oversight and  coordination of rehearsals, performances, tours, and events.

  • Serve as liaison to choreographers, directors, and collaborators; manage all logistics related to mounting new or existing works.

  • Coordinate production needs with internal teams, ensuring crew and support staff are secured for each performance.

  • Support costume department operations and volunteers, including budgeting, maintenance, and allocation.

  • Collaborate with marketing and development teams to promote programming and support audience growth.

  • Track performance data (attendance, sales, feedback) and assist with grant reporting and compliance.

  • Volunteer Management



2. Operational and  Administrative Leadership

  • Manage rehearsal and performance schedules in collaboration with artistic staff.

  • Populate and update the company calendar(s)

  • Serve as primary contact for Artistic and Production Staff regarding timelines, venues, and logistics.

  • Assist with contract management for artists, collaborators, and production personnel.

  • Support budgeting and expense tracking with the executive team.

  • Assist in onboarding, training, and oversight of production staff and volunteers throughout the season

  • Collaborate with the Costume Supervisor and Production Manager to manage inventory and organization of costumes, props, and equipment.

  • Prepare reports and documentation for the Board of Directors

3. Company and Dancer Oversight

  • Coordinate auditions

  • Manage communications with Company dancers.

  • Assist the Executive Director with contracting for ensemble and company dancers.

  • Work with the Executive Director to manage payroll stipends and reporting for professional and guest dancers.

  • Lead or support rehearsals and company classes alongside the Producing Artistic Director.

  • Conduct annual dancer evaluations and provide mentorship.

  • Coordinate supplemental workshops, residencies, and special training in conjunction with the Academy Director.

  • Liaise with the Academy Director on dancer integration into teaching or student roles.


4. Choreography and  Production Leadership

  • Work with the Producing Artistic Director to set original choreography or restage classical and contemporary repertoire as needed for company productions.

  • Partner with the Artistic Producing Director to develop seasonal artistic programming and casting.

  • As requested by the Producing Artistic Director, lead rehearsals and provide choreographic coaching to Company dancers, ensuring artistic quality and consistency.

  • Collaborate with designers, composers, and directors to maintain the creative integrity of productions.

  • Maintain detailed choreographic notes and rehearsal records for all works.

  • Support efforts to document and archive Ballet Wichita’s choreographic history and intellectual property.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Arts Administration, Dance, or related field—or equivalent professional experience.

  • Minimum three years’ experience in arts or nonprofit management, preferably in dance or performance.

  • Demonstrated leadership and management skills, including experience supervising staff, volunteers, or artists.

  • Proven ability to manage complex projects and timelines, with attention to detail and follow-through.

  • Experience as a choreographer or rehearsal director in a professional or pre-professional company.

  • Strong communication, project management, and organizational skills.

  • Knowledge of dance production, choreography, and company operations.

Proficiency in Google Workplace and comfort with database or project management software.
