The magical holiday season comes alive with Ballet Wichita’s The Nutcracker. For over 40 years, we have brought one of the most well-known holiday stories to life through dance. It’s the timeless story of Clara, a lively Nutcracker, a Snow Queen and some mice to help keep audiences on their toes! Held in December to sold-out audiences throughout Kansas, The Nutcracker is our biggest production of the year. Joined by a live performance from the Ballet Wichita Symphony Orchestra, The Nutcracker is a favorite for Wichita audiences every year.
Ballet Wichita is excited to announce the New Nutcracker! With the addition of Guest Artistic Director Karen Brown and Guest Choreographer Sean McLeod, audiences are in for a surprise fresh take on this classic performance.
Karen Brown continually seeks opportunities to grow, to learn, to develop new skills and to stretch herself, thus, she accepted the position as Guest Artistic Director of Ballet Wichita in August 2017. Ms. Brown was reared in Augusta, Georgia as the eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Allen N. Brown. She joined a regional ballet company in her early teens and subsequently became a Principal Ballerina with The Dance Theatre of Harlem (DTH), one of the most prestigious ballet companies in the world. As a cultural ambassador with that organization for 22 years, she toured Canada, North and South America, Western and Eastern Europe, Australia and the Pacific Rim. From the inception of DTH’s Kennedy Center Community Outreach Residency in Washington, D.C. in 1992 until 1998, she was a master teacher and adjudicator for the ground-breaking and innovative community-focused program.
