Pattern: Because we use the high waisted and pieced basque from Tutus That Dance, you will need to purchase that pattern directly from them for $15.00: https://tutusthatdance.com/collections/accessories/products/high-basque-2300
That is separate from the class fee.
Basque fabric: You will need 2/3 a yard of both a fashion fabric of your choice and a lining fabric.
Fashion Fabric Suggestions: Woven (non-stretch) fabrics such as: bengaline, gabardine, satin, or satineens, brocades, taffeta. We generally make our ballet bodices out of bengaline we get from Tutu.com. But we also use other woven fabrics.
Lining Fabric Suggestions: Fabric suggestions: cotton or cotton blend. Unbleached muslin is fine. We generally use a white Twill fabric which is a blend of cotton. Wash your lining before class if at all possible. Using warm water. Especially if it is 100% cotton. This is what stabilizes your fashion fabric.
Tulle: typically is 55” wide and we use for top 3 layers. You want to get 11 yards You can get tulle at Joanns but I do find their color selection is hit or miss. Hobby Lobby also tulle on hand.
We generally order it online from Tutu.com who have an incredible color selection. https://tutu.com/collections/tutu-net
Tutu Nets Midwest is another quality source: https://www.tutunetsmidwest.com/store/c1/Featured_Products.html
Netting: Used for the bottom layer: You want to get 3 yards. Same sources as above.
Hook and bars: We use #6 and you need 6-8 for the back. A #6 hook/bar at Tutu.com is 3⁄4’ long. Joann’s carries hooks/bars under the Dritz brand. We also use hook/bar tape from Tutu.com but I don’t see any of that available at Joann’s after an online review. You could also opt to use hook and loop tape (Velcro) which you can certainly get at Joanns.
Elastic: I put 1/2” elastic around the top on the inside to help gently cinch the waist to the dancer. Suggest 1 yard.
Grossgrain ribbon: this is optional here. Typically the high basque is covered by the bodice so we don’t finish off the top of these basques. If you are going to be tucking a top into the basque/tutu, then you will need to get 5/8” to 1” gross grain ribbon to coordinate or match your fashion fabric to finish this off. You will need enough to fit your waist.
Thread: don’t forget to pick up thread to match the fashion fabric of your basque.
